Ordering truck switches: connector, controls and mounting checks
A purchasing checklist for headlamp, window and lighting switches, focused on OE references, connector photos and required control functions.
Two switches can share a vehicle brand or button style and still be different catalog items. A clear sourcing brief should describe what the switch must connect to, how it mounts and which controls are needed. This helps a supplier respond to the right requirement rather than quote a visually similar part.
Start with the exact item and OE reference
Record the original reference and any candidate catalog number. Describe the vehicle or assembly information you actually know, but do not add unsupported model years or compatibility claims. Check catalog remarks such as connector count or high/low specification against your required version. These remarks are reference information, not a promise of interchangeability.
Photograph the front, connector and mounting
Supply a front view showing control symbols, a rear view showing connectors and a side view showing mounting or clips. Include legible part markings. Request dimensions or a drawing where mounting clearance matters. A front photograph alone cannot establish the connector layout, and identical pin counts do not prove identical electrical functions.
Specify the controls that must match
State which functions and symbols you need and identify any orientation or side-specific requirement from reliable records. Ask the supplier to confirm the exact configuration being quoted. If there are version differences, document them before approval; do not accept a brand-only description as a complete technical confirmation.
Keep the quotation and receiving checks aligned
Put the agreed reference, images or drawing, quantity, packaging requirements and unresolved questions in the RFQ. Discuss sample availability where necessary. Save the confirmed item description with the order so the receiving team can compare the delivered marking, connector and controls to the requirement. Installation and electrical checks belong to qualified technicians.
Purchasing guidance, not installation or diagnostic instructions. Confirm compatibility and specifications with the supplier and a qualified technician.
